Highland Games

Blog Comments

So, my friend Keith was in his first Highland Games competition today.  I went with him to cheer him on and take pictures.  He got 3rd place!  Way to go, Keith!  He did really well in the distance categories.

Despite sunblock, I got horribly sunburned.  I don’t remember the last time I saw my arms and neck so red.  This is gonna be a long week. Next time I go to watch him I gotta make sure I re-apply sunblock or bring an umbrella to block the sun.

I took a bunch of pictures and videos with my phone’s camera.  Once I get the USB cable in the mail, I’ll post some pictures up here.

I love my phone!

Blog Comments

No, not like that…

I do very much like it, however.  I tested the camera quality more today, and it’s superb for a camera phone.  I ordered a USB cable and 1GB memory card for the phone off of eBay today.  I’ll post some pictures once I get the cable and get it working.

V CAST is pretty cool.  This morning as I was eating breakfast I watched some Colbert Report videos on my phone.  That’s fun.

LG enV (VX9900)

Blog Comments

The silver colored Verizon enV while closed
I upgraded my cell phone today.  I got an LG enV completely free from Verizon Wireless due to a $50 discount from a sale, and $100 off from Verizon’s “New Every Two” discount. I’ve only had the phone for a few hours now, but I’m very happy with it so far. A full charge only took a couple hours.

The phone opens up to a full keyboard, which is great for text messaging, instant messaging, web browsing, and entering new contacts.  With the keyboard it only took me a few minutes to enter all my contacts from my old phone.

Included on the back is a 2.0 megapixel camera.  I have yet to try it in bright light, but the pictures in the dim nighttime of my apartment are of reasonable quality.  It supports resolutions from 320×240 to 1600×1200, and will store pictures to internal camera memory or to a microSD card.  You can also take videos at up to 320×240, and they can last up to an hour long.  The microSD slot supports up to 1GB.  Any videos less than 5MB can be set as the system wallpaper.  You can also set different wallpapers for the small external screen and the main internal screen.

The enV has Bluetooth support, of course.  In addition to normal Bluetooth headsets, it also supports stereo wireless headsets.  I guess this is mostly for listening to music.  I don’t know when I’ll use this feature.

After trying out V CAST a little, I think I like it.  After a couple seconds of waiting I can easily watch free Comedy Central videos, or news, or whatever.  Very cool.

I think I may try out the VZ Navigator on the way home from work tomorrow, and see how accurate it is.

Heat Vision and Jack

Blog, TV and Movies Comments

This is one of the funniest videos I’ve seen in a while. Great waste of brain cells. It’s called Heat Vision and Jack. Apparently it was made as a pilot for Fox back in 1999. Fox turned it down. So sad. I would have watched it.

(Either JavaScript is not active or you are using an old version of Adobe Flash Player. Please install the newest Flash Player.)

Jack Black plays Jack, The voice of the motorcycle (Heat Vision) is Owen Wilson. Directed by Ben Stiller. Ron Silver plays himself. Pure genius.

My Firefox Extensions

Blog, Firefox Comments

It goes without saying that, given the option, you really should use Firefox if you’re browsing the web. It’s a more secure browser than Internet Explorer, it’s more productive, and you can personalize it.

That’s what I’m talking about today. Firefox Extensions. Here’s my list of essential extensions for Firefox.

  • Adblock Plus - Removes ads from pages you view, so pages load faster.
  • Fasterfox - A few performance and network tweaks for Firefox, so everything goes a little faster.
  • Firefox Companion for eBay - Gives you a sidebar showing the activity of anything you’re watching, bidding, or selling on eBay, as well as providing quick access to eBay search.
  • Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer - If you have multiple computers or multiple operating systems running Firefox, this wonderful extension will keep your bookmarks synchronized between systems for you.
  • Gmail Skins - If you use Gmail, this lets you skin the interface. Mine is yellow. :-)
  • ScribeFire - Blog editor that integrates with Firefox and lets you post to your blogs from wherever you are on the web.
  • StumbleUpon - I haven’t used this one in a while, but it’s a great way to waste time and find new web sites on the web. It learns what you like to look at, and makes recommendations based on that. You can also use it to meet people with similar browsing interests.
  • Tab Mix Plus - Lets you change how Firefox’s tabbed browsing behaves. You can change which tab gets focus by default when a tab closes, change tab focus on mouse over instead of clicking, undo closed tabs, and fit tab size to tab titles, to name just a few options.

So that’s it! If you don’t have Firefox, give it a try. You may just find that you like it.

AD&D Books

Blog, Gaming Comments

Yay! Yesterday I ordered some Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 1st edition books off of eBay, and they arrived in the mail today. I got a Dungeon Master’s Guide, Monster Manual, Player’s Handbook, and a few old Dragon magazines and adventure modules. All in good condition. One of these days I’ll actually run a session or two. Should be fun.

Abandoning the Flock

Blog, Firefox Comments

So, I’ve tested Flock, and I’m giving up on it. It’s nice, but it just doesn’t support as many plugins as Firefox. I still want to be able to blog from any website in my browser, so I’m trying out the ScribeFire extension. Posting from it right now. It integrates well with most blogs, and it seems to work just fine with my WordPress blogs.

Birds of a Feather…

Blog, Firefox Comments

I Flock

So, I’m testing out the Flock social web browser. It’s based on Firefox, which I’ve been using for a long time. The Flock broswer is designed to integrate with social web sites such as YouTube, Flickr, Photobucket, Blogger, Wordpress, del.icio.us, and LiveJournal. It also integrates with self-hosted blogs such as this one. I’m posting right now from flock without having logged in to my website. It’s cool, I think I may keep it.

Site moved!

Blog, Site Updates Comments

Alright! I have successfully switched my website host and domain name services to GoDaddy.com. I’m really happy with it so far. I get really great control over my hosting package, and a great price.

All of the videos that were previously here are now at BlogJester.com. This page will continue to be a personal blog for me.

Site changeover

Blog, Site Updates Comments

Alright, so some big changes happening to the site soon. I’m working on switching my web host and domain provider to GoDaddy.com. In the process, I’ll be switching a couple things as far as site layout is concerned. I’ll be changing JamesonRobert.com into just a personal blog for me, no Juggling stuff. The Juggling videos will be moving to BlogJester.com. I’ll be switching from Joomla for JamesonRobert.com content management to WordPress. It’ll look a bit cleaner and load a bit faster. I don’t use most of the features in Joomla anyway.

I’m also working on a comic site with some friends. Should be up within about a month. I’ll have a link here when it’s ready.

If you’re subscribed to the RSS feed or the Email Updates, those will stay attached to the personal blog, no need to change anything on your end.
